It has become something of a tradition at Discworld Conventions to hold
some form of afpmeet, so that afpers past, present and future can get
together and enjoy the odd piece of chocolate, the odd sip of semi
translucent beverages and the odd game of balloon duelling.
At the 2002 Convention it was made into an proper Afparty complete with
cake and candles to celebrate the year of the Hedgehog (aka AFP's tenth
anniversary). This was a great success with (IIRC) well over two hundred
people turning up - afpers past and contemporary plus some who became
afpers shortly after. The format was repeated and equally successful in
2004, with balloon duelling, hedgehog cakes and chocolate tasting and
once more we had afpers past, contemporary and shortly-to-become.
I have asked the rest of the Committee if afp can have the same room and
timeslot again so that if there is enough interest it could be
repeated. However it needs volunteers to organise the details of what is
wanted and be willing to help set up and in particular to help with
clearing up afterwards - afp has been offered the room for the Saturday
evening but it needs to be ready for programme items first thing on the
Sunday morning.
A handful or more people willing to sign up to do this are needed - if
you would like to help out or have suggestions for activities or
thoughts on the idea then please let me know at the email address above.
